Firebird #1: Pacesetter headers (Armor*coat) |
What you see on this pictures are Pacesetter
headers
for my car (part #72C1206).
They are ceramic coated (armor*coat, looks like polished metal).
They are also available in black paint (part #70-1206).
I ordered them from Summitracing, much cheaper than the prices on
the Pacesetter site.
They come all bolts and gaskets needed.
They look real good, and if you ever looked at the exhaust manifold
and Y-pipe (which is actually a T, what the hell is that all about
???) you
can easily imagine how it could be improved upon !!
The pictures speak for itself
I decided to do it right first time around, so we wrapped the
headers in exhaust wrap (keeps exhaust gasses warm and engine
cooler).
We used exhaust insulating wrap and snap straps from Thermo-tec.
The wrap is great (itchy, but great).
The snap strap is great too, if you like ripping your hands and
arms open while working on your engine ... so many sharp edges,
and they'll
cut you up in the most annoying places.
I would look out for something else to secure the exhaust wrap if
you
are planning to do the same.
This is how they look finished :
Installation went on pretty easy.
Some of the bolts on the header are a real bitch to tighten.
I was able to retain the EGR, but i had to disable my air-pump.
The air-pump is still on the belt.
It will be replaced with an idler pulley soon.
Underneath the car all went pretty easy.
The 2 slip-joints (y-pipe to catalyc converter and 2 pieces of the
y-pipe) will leak easy, and have to be tightened real good, and
use
a lot of gun-gum (or other exhaust cement).
Also the O2-sensor wire had to be longer for my application (approx.
16cm)
And this is how it looked at the end of the day.
As you can see, a PF52 oil filter hits the header.
I read on the thirdgen message board Pacesetter fixed this.
I guess they fixed it by removing the oil-filter !!!
Sound clips and new times will follow.
