Firebird #1: Cold Air Intake |
I was thinking about a cold air intake for some time, but like other
Firebird V6 owners like me know, they don' make one for our engines.
So, there was nothing else we could do except slap one together ourselves.
So here is what we used :
Some hoses from Samco.
A metal air inlet tube i bought on some tuning show, actually meant to be for some Honda-engine.
A Ramair airfilter.
It's either this or a Pipercross or Raid-RDI foam filter. Don't go for K&N or even worse, one of those cheap knock-offs.
Some clamps, rivets, tie wraps and an air-inlet from Butler and a cold air induction hose from Raid-RDI.
We ripped out the old ailfilter with the box as well as the plate it was placed on and the inlet tube.
We had to relocate the EVAP canister to make place for the big-ass airfilter.
We riveted the airinlet in the lower airdam and used the duct to lead fresh cold air to the air-filter.
Next step was placing the airfilter on the 145° elbow and putting the air temp sensor in there.
The finished product looks like this ... not bad for home-made if i say so myself ....
For the effect it had, check out the performance page ... it's not too bad, but i must admit i was hoping for a little bit more, especially on the 400M.
