Firebird #1: BMR CF Driveshaft |
What you see on these pictures is a BMR carbon fibre driveshaft
for my car compared to the stock driveshaft that comes with these cars.
The sock driveshaft was 7,175 KG (15.81 pounds).
The CF driveshaft was suprisingly heavy : 5.925 KG (13.06 Pounds).
If you are thinking about buying a CF driveshaft, and you want to reduce
rotating mass on your driveline, you shoud concider another make ...
for example ACPT.
The ACPT shafts are aluminum bonded ends and 100% carbon fiber shaft tube.
The BMR shafts are just carbon fiber wrapping around aluminum tubing to reduce vibrations.
I got this info from someone at the thirdgen.org message boards.
Weight of common f-body driveshafts:
- 16 lbs - Stock steel LT1 driveshaft
- 12.2 lbs - 3rd gen aluminum 1LE driveshaft
- 12 lbs - LPE aluminum driveshaft
- 11.5 lbs - Stock aluminum LS1 driveshaft
- 10 lbs - RK Sport aluminum 1pc driveshaft
- 4 lbs - ACPT carbon fiber
Here is a picture of the installed driveshaft.
